Old Games & Prototypes

Introduction

Welcome to the project vault. Here you’ll find a collection of Flash Games created by me (Matt) before I started working full-time on RPG Tycoon. Most of them are just simply prototypes and were mainly used as a creative exercise to try out different styles of games that I would make in my lunchtimes or free periods whilst in high-school. Funnily enough you should be able to notice some of the trends that have inspired/carried over into RPG Tycoon, there’s a lot of sim/management elements in these demos and looking back at them I’m hoping in same form or another the gameplay explored in these protoypes / demos will make it further into any future projects created by Skatanic Studios.

Keep in mind. Most of these are unfinished. I had very little motivations to finish projects when I was younger. (I would always get distracted by a new idea.)

Accidents Happen 2

Created: 2009

Accidents Happen 2 is a quirky, sci-fi interactive movie where the player is given paths to develop the story. However one path always happened to lead into an untimely death. This was the only real “game” that was completed.

City RPG

Created: 2011-2012

Probably the most developed of the Prototypes. City RPG was planned to be a simulation life RPG game where the player would start from nothing in a small city and level up their skills to try and become as successful as possible. There is a working city view, and you would be able to interact with elements in the city. The player would get jobs, learn new skills and expand their house as well as purchasing new furniture and redecorating.

Mystery Island (Version II)

Created: ~2010
A remake / upgraded version of the original Mystery Island Demo. (Based off of a short novel I wrote when I was about 13). This was an attempt at building a point and click adventure game in flash. In this demo you can actually move around and interact with a few things. One of the projects I wish I’d had the motivation to see through. Perhaps it’ll have a third and final iteration one day.

Simserdan

Created: ~2008
Simserdan is a top-down simulation RPG that similar to city RPG lets the player work in a simulated city, grow and expand their house. The game is semi-functional. It allows you to get a job, change outfits (this was the focus of the prototype) and upgrade your house. There’s even a few mini-games!

RPG

I quite liked Adventure Quest when I was younger…

Mystery Island

Created: ???
The original version of Mystery Island. Very ugly. Glad this didn’t get much further.
