RPG Tycoon at Insomnia 56 – Development Update #021

So this past weekend I took to Birmingham again to show off RPG Tycoon at Multiplay’s Insomnia 56 Gaming Festival alongside my friend Keaton from Abyssal Arts (pictured below) who was showing off the demo for his game City of The Shroud. Funnily enough, Keaton was one of the developers I met back at Rezzed in the start of the year and we were joined by a couple of other familiar faces such as the guys from XMPT Games (Discstorm) and Prospect Games (Unbox) and had the pleasure of meeting a few new faces too.

I took the newest build of the game to the expo which demonstrated the improved Quick Quest / Settlement system where settlements are now all affected simultaneously by a Hero performing a Quick Quest and their happiness and follower count is changed based on this as Settlements now produce a number of followers monthly. Which means that instead of earning followers from Quests in order to progress, players must now keep all of their settlements happy in order to earn enough followers over time and level up their kingdom. Making it both more challenging and more intertwined with the rest of the game.

I’m really pleased with how the show went and overall feedback from the players was positive. I’m confident this change in system will work as the last push to tighten the game mechanics up. There’s a little bit more work involved in getting Alpha 12 ready, but a lot of it is changes to improving systems and more content as the game is mostly feature complete at this point.

So I’ll keep working on that and have an update out towards the end of the month, in and amongst the holiday period no doubt.

I dug out my old DSLR from University and snapped some shots of the expo over the weekend, for those of you that are interested feel free to browse the gallery pictures below.
