RPG Tycoon Launched!

capsule_launch_alt

I’m incredibly happy to say that RPG Tycoon has officially launched out of Early Access after almost two years! You can buy the game now on Steam for PC & Mac.

Buy the game!

Here’s a shiny new launch trailer for you too.

The launch build of the game brings a huge number of changes including a smarter kingdom generation algorithm that groups terrain decorations together, loads of new decorations and buildings to choose from, new quests, supplies and a contextual tip system that should help new players understand the systems a bit better (these can be disabled in options) as well as a view distance option that controls how much of the game-map you’re limited to in order help improve performance or give you more freedom if that’s not a concern.

There’s also an awesome new in-game quest editor that allows you to write and control new Epic Quest events, create icons and then share them as mods on the steam workshop without ever leaving the game! Also, all of the in-game text is now in a file in data/strings.xml so anyone looking to translate the game, should be able to do so by simply editing the text in the data folder.

If you want to learn more about modding the game (it’s super easy) and there’s documentation here.

There’s a full list of patch notes available below.

What’s next?

I’m going to take a little bit of time off over March as GDC is approaching and I have some family functions to attend, however I’ll continue working on any bugs or fixes that need doing if anything arises and update as/when I can. I’m also planning on continuing support for the game for a little while longer after launch with additional free content, but further patches probably won’t be as frequent from here out.

So if you’re interested in extra content, patches or want to hear about projects that may crop up in the future you can also sign up to the mailing list over on the blog to be notified of anything new if/when it happens. Also, if you’re social media savvy be sure to follow SkatanicStudios on Twitter to stay informed of any news!

It’s been an incredible experience making this game and I’m so proud of how far it’s come since initial release in early access. It’s thanks to many of you and your feedback that I’ve been able to get the game to this point and I’ve hugely valued the support from all of you over the past two years. I really, really could not of done this without you all supporting me throughout Early Access and I really hope you’re pleased with the final result of this process as much as I certainly am. The game is lightyears ahead of what I could have imagined achieving when I first began.

Thank you.

Best,

Matt
