RPG Tycoon Alpha 0.5 Now Available for Preview

I’ve just released RPG Tycoon 0.4.91 on Steam for Preview. If you’re not already opted-in to access the preview builds, just right click on RPG Tycoon in your Library > Properties > Betas and select “Public_Beta” upon doing so, steam should begin to update your game to the new build. You’ll know you got there because it’ll  have the new menu screen and look like this when it’s loaded.

I’m planning on releasing this build publicly on Monday along with a 10% discount to celebrate the release, but it’s important that it goes as smoothly as possible. I’ve been working all month on the updates and haven’t had much time for testing, so I plan to spend the next few days doing just that and fixing any bugs I come across. I’d really appreciate anyone to feedback any bugs via the Steam forums with a clearly marked “0.5 Preview Bug” headline.

Since the last video I’ve made a few changes.

The addition of Kingdom Levelling means that there is now a much more steady and focused opening to the game with more features unlocking as you get more popular and gain more followers, which also meant that I had to re-focus research. I’m actually really happy with how it’s turned out.

I’ve also added a few new Heroes into the game, some of which unlock at higher kingdom levels and the ability to hire more than two heroes now with the Medium Quarters that unlocks around Level 3.

One of the final things I focused on was creating an end-game by adding scoring into the game. When you complete your time, you’ll be scored based on your actions. It’s pretty basic at the moment but it should help create something for those competitive players to enjoy, trying to work hard and get a better score the next time around. This whole system will grow with each update as more things develop that you can be scored on.

0.4 was really about bringing all the systems together to make it feel like a game. This time around I think the main thing I wanted to achieve with this was added more stuff to do and more scope to your Kingdom. There’s a whole bunch of new buildings and decorations to play with so hopefully that’ll keep people engaged longer, and I’m looking to keep adding more stuff moving forward.

Primarily I’m interesting in getting feedback directly on the new features, end-game scoring, new characters, resolution settings and anything else that’s changed. Saving and Loading bugs are also worth brining to attention because I want to really make sure you can continue where you left off without a hitch with this update.

Also, I’m excited to announce that Chris Lucca has joined the team as the composer for the game and has agreed to create 10 exclusive tracks for the game’s soundtrack which will be available for download when the game leaves Early Access. His first two tracks are already in the game with this update!
